This week’s podcast is a recording of a presentation from the Rebecca School NYC DIR Conference from last month about forming friendships virtually during the pandemic. It is called, “Thank You for Being a Friend”: How One Group Used Games to Foster Friendships and Stay Connected Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic by Morgan Weissman and June Ilowite, both Occupational Therapists at the Rebecca School in Manhattan. Thank you to Morgan Weissman, June Ilowite, and the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL) for giving their permission to share the presentation video.

This week's PRACTICE TIP:

This week take stock of your child’s relationship circle and figure out if you can make any contacts more predictable by scheduling consistent weekly meet-up times that last for a specified time period and contain rituals such as a special beginning and sign off.

I hope you enjoyed this presentation from the Rebecca School NYC DIR Conference from earlier this month about forming friendships virtually during the pandemic. Thank you to Morgan Weissman, June Ilowite, and the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL) for giving their permission to share the presentation video. If you enjoyed and found it useful, please do share it on Facebook or Twitter and feel free to share relevant experiences, questions, or comments in the Comments section below. Next week, building on Morgan and June’s discussion on neurodiversity, we get more in depth with Dr. Alex Klein as we review and discuss his NYC DIR conference presentation on Neurodiversity-Informed Care. Stay tuned!

Until next week, here’s to affecting autism through playful interactions!
