D. Brown has a Master’s degree in Personality and Social Psychology. With more than three decades of experience across universities, government, and nonprofit sectors, she has supported educators, school administrators, and policymakers through research, data analysis, evaluation, and professional learning in psychological, educational, and public health research settings.
Daria holds an Advanced DIRFloortime® Certificate through the International Council on Learning and Development (ICDL) (2016; audited in 2024 for a refresher). She practices a developmental approach to parenting using Floortime. She is the Parent Advocate for ICDL, the home of DIRFloortime® and was diagnosed as Autistic in May 2024 by CAMH in Toronto.
What brought her to creating this service website was the severe brain inflammation of her 2-year-old son in 2011 which preceded his 2012 autism diagnosis. Her research background had her searching for ways to help her son recover from his severe brain injury and support his ensuing challenges and development, and she found what she was looking for in the DIR® model of Dr. Stanley Greenspan.
Over the past decade, Daria has been determined to save parents–and most importantly, children–the agony of going through harmful “treatments” and “interventions” by educating them about DIRFloortime®, an intuitive and effective developmental practice that puts the child in the lead by respecting who they are and what they need, and helping you understand how to best support them.
Daria is also the author of We Chose Play: Raising an Autistic Child to Thrive and Feel Understood, available in print and in audio, and later this year in French, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
