Welcome to AffectAutism.com! Thank you for taking the time to visit. The purpose of this site is to educate, empower, and support parents of children with developmental differences in the following ways:
- Providing regular blog posts about the Developmental, Individual differences, Relationship-based (DIR) model including Floortime that will delve into topics of interest more deeply
- Provide content including hand-outs, podcasts, and videos that will help parents dive into Floortime
- Provide consultation and links to DIR/Floortime services to those who are looking for more
Parents of children with developmental differences are discouraged by the lack of adequate supports available to our children. This needs to change. I have started this advocacy work in order to bring about change. Together we have a voice.
Too many of us have been let down by the current options out there and are sick of being on wait lists for services that don’t help us relate and communicate with our children. We all want to get to know our children’s authentic selves and see their development flourish.
Parents deserve a choice in the approach they provide for their children with developmental differences and that choice is not currently funded in most places. So many are told that there is only one therapy supported by research and that is simply false.
Our goals are not simply to have our child obey commands and function in a classroom without disrupting others. We want more. As taxpayers, we deserve a choice as to how to get there. While we are waiting for our governments to catch up and fund DIR/Floortime, I will show you how to get there.
There have been very promising movements elsewhere in Canada and in the United States around such work.
I am in touch with some of the many people involved so we can have a choice here in Ontario, Canada. You might want to do the same where you live. This site can help you.
DIR/Floortime is supported by research. Those who tell you otherwise are irresponsibly not up-to-date. DIR/Floortime is intuitive and works with how nature intends for children and adults to develop within relationships with others. DIR/Floortime is a viable option for everyone and is also the most cost-effective way to see your child’s development flourish. It helps support children and adults of all ages with developmental differences.
