In the last few weeks, we’ve been trying to solidify your understanding of what DIR/Floortime® is all about. Last week you saw a great example of a 20-minute Floortime session. You were also reminded of the useful book that offers strategies and ideas to use when you’re stuck. The blog post in a couple weeks will go through the self-reflection strategy from that book about the Floortime video from last week, so stay tuned.

If you’re still struggling with how to do Floortime with your child, I thought I’d share a video clip to inspire you to find the playful child in yourself. It’s former child actress, Mayim Bialik, talking about connecting with her children. This video clip doesn’t mention Floortime, but it discusses the higher view of what we do! I hope you enjoy it.

This week’s VIDEO presents highlights from the full BLOG post, Stumbling blocks in Floortime at FEDC 6: Helpful strategies for building bridges between ideas. This sixth core capacity involves emotional and logical thinking, communicating reasoning, and building bridges between ideas. To view the VIDEO or full BLOG post, please click on the respective green button above. There you can find the Key Take-Aways PDF as well.

Does this week’s video help you better understand how to foster emotional and logical thinking in your child once (s)he has reached the higher capacity of symbolic understanding? If so, please share this post by clicking on the Facebook or Twitter buttons below. Do you have an example of how any of these strategies have worked for you or do you have other strategies? If so, please share them with us below in the Comments section.

Until next week… here’s to affecting autism!
